Amesbury Youth Cafe is a safe space with a social area in the Community Room at The Bowman Centre.

Academic Years 8, 9 and 10.

Year Elevens can join but on a membership basis, not open access.

We are also permitted to use the main hall for activities whenever it has not been booked by other users.

Attendance at the Youth Cafe also provides access to a number of other positive activities such as Youth Camps, Day Trips, Theatre Visits, and cultural events.

Activities

Activities have included Guest Speakers, Inflatable Tumble Track,Aerial Activities, Rescue technique, Circus Workshops, Curling, Table Tennis, Fire & Flow Arts.

External providers from Steamship Circus, District Sports and XPG events have all contributed to a rich and varied programme.

Activities at the club are done on a “self consent” basis and carry risk which is usually similar to that playing football. External activities such as trips require completion of an annual permission slip by a guardian with subsequent consent given informally by text or email.

Who can attend?

Subject to respectful behaviour, anybody in years 9, 10 and 11 may attend.

In exceptional circumstances young people in year 12 may attend where there is both a demonstrable need for this provision and a clear benefit to the main body with their attendance. This might include Young People with disabilities or SEND. We also have a Peer Leadership Scheme.

We have a positive involvement with the police who may attend on occasion for community outreach purposes.

Behaviour expectations

The Youth Cafe is not a children's club. We treat the young people as young adults and we expect them to behave accordingly.

Attendance at all of our clubs is a privilege not a right.

Behavioural issues are usually dealt with directly with the young people concerned. Parents are only notified in serious cases or where the young person chooses parental involvement.
