Community First supports the Get Out Get Active project in Wiltshire led by Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP). GOGA aims to bring sport and physical activity to inactive people via local community halls and buildings.

Community First partners with WASP, Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Age UK and Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living in the ground-breaking and exciting GOGA (Get Out Get Active) programme.

It began nationally in 2016 and was created to bring disabled and non-disabled people together to be active. It aims to engage the least active communities in fun, inclusive ways. Now it is set to continue until at least 2023 focussing on the communities in the Southern region of Wiltshire.

GOGA is about more than being active. It strengthens community spirit, increases confidence and improves mental health. It increases the demand for, and the accessibility of, activities.

Success is achieved through tapping into people’s real life motivations to be physically active.

We have engaged with residents in the Broadchalke, Codford, Wilton, Amesbury and Ludgershall communities. We have also delivered face to face training at Wilton Community centre and Amesbury Baptist Church.

Free Training

If you are interested in becoming part of this exciting new programme and attend a free introduction session in Community Organising for Goga volunteers please contact [email protected] for further information and to register your interest.

The course is a starting point for anybody interested in engaging the least active members of society in fun, inclusive ways with the aim of creating or supporting exciting projects in your community.

You will be introduced to the foundations of community organising: listening to build relationships, power and action
