Wiltshire Youth for Christ has been running Summer Pop-Up Youth Cafes since 2015. We have delivered Pop-Up Youth Events in areas around Trowbridge, Devizes, Melksham, Marlborough, Downton and Calne. Engaging with over 100 teenagers each year during the summer break.
A Pop-Up Youth Cafe is a temporary space created to be standalone or support other community events in rural or urban areas. We believe in a Holistic approach to youth work. We want to inspire and equip young people to make positive choices that affect their personal, social, educational and spiritual development, to enable them to develop their voice, influence and place in society to reach their full potential.
The Pop-Up Youth Cafe works best when run in partnership with a local community group or church. We have and are working with Local Youth Networks, Wiltshire Council Area Boards, Wiltshire Police and local churches to deliver this project of hope and good news.
In February 2019 Wiltshire Youth for Christ took on a unique mobile youth project. The ‘Home delivery’ style van is kitted out with iPads, games consoles, hot water facilities and has two awnings to create dry space. We are also able to carry sports and games, community improvement equipment.We are able to set up a focused covered space for teenagers incorporating multi-media, chairs & tables, have different games inc games consoles, activities and refreshments available for young people to come along and enjoy.
From the very start Steve Dewar has involved local young people in its design and set up. This exciting development means that the Pop-Up Youth Cafe project is set to Engage, Inspire and Equip youth work around the Wiltshire area.
As we sill see the ripple effects of the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 and the cost of living crisis taking place, we have seen further need for more detached, flexible and innovative ways or engaging with young people and our communities. Throughout 2023 and beyond, the Pop Up Van resource will enable Wiltshire YFC and other organisations we partner with, to help reach those in often isolated or under resourced or supported areas.
