Over 2.4 million adults in England alone can't read or struggle to. If you're based in the North & West Wiltshire area and have some time to volunteer, you could make a real difference to the lives of local adults who want to learn to read by joining the team of volunteers who run our Read Easy North & West Wiltshire group. You would be part of a group of like-minded volunteers focused on offering adults in your area the life-changing opportunity to learn to read.

Do you enjoy reading, have up to 3 -4 hours a week available and would love to help one of the many local adults who struggle with their literacy? We recruit, train and support a team of reading coaches across North and West Wiltshire to work one to one with an adult learning to read using a tried an tested phonetics programme in person in local libraries or online. You can transform a life this year!

If you are interested in providing non-judgemental literacy support using your empathy and understanding to support your Reader whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries please get in touch.

You will need to:

Liaise with your allocated Coordinator and Literacy Specialist

Attend Coach meetings approximately every two months

Work within Read Easy policies and procedures and confidentiality

Be a clear communicator with the ability to talk and listen to the person you coach in a patient, positive, encouraging and purposeful way

Demonstrate a non-judgemental attitude and a positive respect for others, regardless of abilities, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or age

Be able to focus on your Reader and their literacy needs

Be able to work alone, seeking support when necessary and be reliable, consistent and able to handle disappointment
