Who are we? We are a group of people who enjoy writing. Most members are unpublished although a few have successfully submitted to magazines. Several members have self-published books. We are a friendly group of men and women who welcome new members and visitors.
Where and when do we meet? We meet between September and July on the second and fourth Mondays of the month (apart from bank holidays) in the Old Bell pub in Warminster.
What do we do? Sometimes we hold workshops or ‘tips’ sessions and sometimes we have a speaker. During the majority of meetings we read something we have written – fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s stories or play scripts. Constructive comments and criticism can be offered by the other members.
Twice a year we hold a competition for members, which is judged by someone from outside the group – usually a published writer.
Twice a year also, (summer and winter) we hold a social at which the competition results are announced. Prizes are given and there is a summer shield (The Albert Rowland Memorial Shield) and a winter shield (The Joan Moules Shield) to be won.
Subscriptions: We like people to come for a couple of sessions to ‘try us out’. If they then decide to join, each member pays £5 twice a year and a further £1.50 at each meeting they attend. This pays for competition prizes, social gatherings, expenses of a speaker and other sundry expenses.
