South Wilts Mencap is an independent Salisbury charity started by local parents in 1959 and is affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society. South Wilts Mencap supports people with learning disabilities; inspiring them to achieve their full potential and enabling them and their families to lead fuller lives.
We provide social and leisure activities for people with learning disabilities. This includes a bespoke travel agent service called Breakaway, which gives people with learning disabilities over the age of 18 a chance to go on holiday, supported by experienced carers. As a local charity, we also provide support to people with learning disabilities, their families and carers through information and signposting, grants to individuals with learning disabilities and weekly email bulletin with key information and diary dates.
As a charity, we wholly own a charity shop in Salisbury which runs independently with its own Board of Directors; 16 Catherine Street Ltd. Proceeds from the shop are transferred to the Society and form the main source of income for South Wilts Mencap.
