Lover Baby Bank believe that every child deserves the same start and that by sharing the items our families have outgrown we can support a circular economy in a focused and meaningful way.

Our aims -  

- To help alleviate child poverty in Downton and surrounding villages by providing new and good quality pre-owned items to families experiencing hardship, with kindness and purpose.  

- To promote recycling of second-hand items in order to protect the environment and reduce unnecessary waste.  

- To promote safe sleeping by providing a moses basket or crib with a brand-new mattress. 

- To support breastfeeding initiatives, healthy weaning, and safe parenting initiatives. 

What we do -  

We collect good quality, pre-loved items such as clothes, toys and equipment, and distribute them to families in need across Downton and surrounding villages.  All items would be cleaned and, where necessary, safety checked. We would also provide new items donated directly from the public, or from food banks and distribute as needed.  

Access to support from Lover Baby Bank is based on third-party referral by professionals such as community midwives, health visitors and family support workers. 

Reasons for referral include (but are not limited to): 

• Poverty 
• Refugee/asylum seeker status or newly arrived to the UK 

• Domestic violence/leaving the family home 
• Isolation from family 
• Teenage pregnancy 
• Military families in need 
• Victims of fire or flooding 

• Children in emergency foster placements 
• Homelessness or living in temporary accommodation 

We help individuals and families from all backgrounds, regardless of their personal situation.
