About

Wiltshire Council Library Service

You can join the library at any age and membership is free. We have 34 libraries across Wiltshire, including 3 mobile libraries. You can use your library card to borrow books, access our online resources and use the public computers. All of our libraries have printing facilities and free Wi-Fi. Our larger libraries also offer free bookable appointments to support you to use your devices or the library computers.

We have lots of children’s books (for babies through to teens) and fun free activities to support their reading, learning and wellbeing. Activities include rhyme times for babies and toddlers, seasonal activities and LEGO Clubs. Library staff can help with reading queries, including support for reluctant readers – just ask when you next visit a library or email us. If appropriate, we'll pass your query onto our specialist children's librarians. All libraries also offer fun free reading challenges with incentives to motivate children in their reading, including the Story Adventurers’ Club (for four to 16 year olds) and the popular Summer Reading Challenge (for four to 11 year olds).

Our libraries are all warm spaces where you can sit and stay and receive basic energy advice. We are also working with the Good Things Foundation to distribute free SIMs and mobile data to people in need. The National Databank scheme is supported by UK mobile networks including Vodafone, O2 and Three. The free SIMs and mobile data are available from Chippenham, Devizes, Salisbury, Trowbridge, and Warminster libraries. To find out more and to book an appointment, contact the library or complete the National Databank application form.

To join the library, simply visit one of our libraries with proof of your name and address.

Our online resources include:

  • eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines from OverDrive via the Libby app
  • Naxos Music Library - listen to classical music, jazz and blues
  • Naxos Spoken Word Library - listen to novels, plays and poetry
  • Theory Test Pro - practise your driving theory test
  • Know Your Place - explore your neighbourhood online through historic maps

You can also use your library card to borrow books and eBooks from our Reading Well collections, which help you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing.

We also offer meeting rooms for hire and volunteering opportunities.
