Membership is open to residents of Mere and the surrounding areas, fees are currently £60.00 per year for existing members or £35.00 for the first year for new members, pro-rata rates are also available for members who join later in the season. New or prospective members need not join the Club immediately as we offer three free roll-up sessions (see below) so that you can ‘try before you buy’.

The Club season runs from April to mid September each year. Roll-up or practice sessions are held each Tuesday or Thursday evening starting at 5.30pm and on Saturday afternoons at 3pm, currently a separate charge of £1.00 is levied on members attending roll-ups. Roll-ups for the less fit will be avialable from the 2021 season onwards of only one hour, these will be run by our ex President, Tom Cardoza. Tuesday evening is designated ‘Club’ night; on Club nights members do not have to participate in roll-ups but may do as they wish, sit and have a chat over a cup of tea or a drink or practice a specific part of Bowling on a spare rink in their own time and at their own pace. Coaching for new or existing players is also available at this time, if one of the Club coaches is free.

Application forms to join the Club are available from the Club Secretary, Don Butchers 01747 860775.

About the club

Mere Bowls Club can trace its beginnings back to a single rink in the garden of old Mr Burden a keen local bowler back in the 1930’s, however the present Club was formed in 1964.

It is a relatively small club with a membership that varies between 40 and 50 each season; the original green consisted of 2 full rinks and half a rink, it was leased from Salisbury District Council and was located at the top of Steep Street; this is now the Mere Croquette and Boule Club.

The Club has been located at its present location on Springfield Road since 2006 when the new green was opened; the new green and pavilion were built with funding aid from the South West Area Grant Scheme and other sources. The pavilion, that belongs to Mere Town Council, is used not only by the Bowling Club put also by a variety of other sports clubs and the Town Council; it may be booked by any organisation in Mere for functions or meetings, dependant on the required date being free in the diary.

Having now a regulation sized green we could become affiliated to both Bowls Wiltshire and Bowls England, this action was completed in 2006 in readiness for the Club moving to it's present location.

What will we reject?

Wiltshire Together is not a business directory for commercial organisations, as we would then need to charge advertising rates (which we don’t). We will approve relevant activities added by non-profits.

How quickly will we approve activities?

We aim to approve activities within 2 working days. Our admins do not work Fridays, so activities posted on a Thursday may not be reviewed until Monday.
