Established in 1998 as one of the UK’s pioneering young carers support projects, the Wiltshire Young Carers Service currently supports more than 1,000 children and young people aged 5–18 across the county.
A young carer is someone under the age of 18 who provides care and support to a family member or loved one with an illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction. Young carers may also help care for siblings or older relatives.
Youth Action Wiltshire is the award-winning youth work arm of Community First. Through our dedicated Wiltshire Young Carers Service, we work with hundreds of young carers every year, championing their voices and supporting them to feel safer in their caring roles. We help young carers build confidence, resilience and the skills they need to achieve and thrive.
Our offer includes:
- Adventure and respite activities
- Friendship opportunities and peer support
- One-to-one and group support
- A personalised support plan for every young carer
- Counselling and talking therapy
- Information, advice and guidance
- Mentoring and coaching
- Skills development opportunities and awards
We are proud to support young carers across Wiltshire, creating opportunities for them to enjoy positive experiences, build lasting friendships and reach their full potential beyond their caring responsibilities.
