Who we are

BUGS – Burns Unit Group Support.  We are the support group for patients with a burn injury treated at Salisbury District Hospital.  Our aim is to support burns patients on the wards and as they move out in to the community as outpatients.  As a patient support group, our focus is what our patients require to make their stay in hospital more comfortable and less stressful at an already traumatic time.

What we are looking for

A volunteer to support the recruitment and support of BUGS volunteers. They will also liaise with other volunteers who visit Odstock Ward, ensuring they also meet the aims of BUGS and are supportive of each other.

What is required

Our Volunteer Liaison will be a part of the BUGS Organisational Team and assist it to evolve and continue to support patients.  They will help maintain relationships between BUGS, the volunteers who visit burns patients and key members of NHS staff.  This is a new role that will be a mix of face-face and from home activities.  As a member of the BUGS Team, they will be required to attend team meetings.

The role requires someone who can be:

  • positive, enthusiastic and committed
  • patient and empathic
  • a team player
  • creative and innovative
  • supportive of our aims and be an advocate for our work
  • patient focussed

We would like someone who has:

  • experience in leading/co-ordinating small to medium-sized teams
  • excellent listening and communication skills
  • good writing ability
  • the ability to be organised
  • excellent attention to detail
  • the ability to motivate, encourage and support others

Ideally, we would also like applicants to have experience of at least one of the following:

  • of working or volunteering for not-for-profits and/or charitable organisations
  • of working in the NHS
  • an understanding of the impact of a burn injury, scar or long-term condition

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a virtual volunteer team
  • Keep in touch with individual volunteers
  • Organise quarterly volunteer meet-up sessions
  • Keep volunteers up to date with BUGS developments.
  • Be a main point of contact for BUGS volunteering
