Friends of the Folly is a new group which is being formed to look after the Folly Woodlands in Bemerton Heath.
We will work together to care, maintain and manage Bemerton Folly. We will also promote it in the community as a valuable resource for both wildlife and people. We hope it can be a place where wildlife can thrive, and where local residents, present and future, can relax, exercise, travel to school and work, and learn about the natural world safely and in harmony with nature.
Friends of the Folly must sign up as Salisbury City Council volunteers and must be over 18. They will be supported by representatives from Salisbury City Council, Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
Maintenance work in the Folly will follow the plan drawn up by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. It will involve tasks such as clearing vegetation, spreading woodchip, tree and shrub planting and coppicing. It must not include the use of power tools such as chainsaws and brushcutters, nor litter picks. We may also carry out activities to encourage wildlife, such as erecting bat and bird boxes and insect hotels. Friends of the Folly can also have a say in shaping future plans for the woodlands.
There will be one scheduled meeting per month on a Friday morning.
You may wish to become a Tree Warden and receive online training and newsletters from the Tree Council.
