Purpose of the role: To lead the development of the Trusts Strategy on Biodiversity, Nature Conservation and the Environment
Key Tasks and activities:
- To build a team drawing from all branches and volunteers/experts from outside the Trust
- Develop the WBCT biodiversity, nature conservation and environmental policy and strategy, ensuring that it complies with the latest thinking and the needs of society and the Trust
- Chair the environment hub (e-hub)
- Keep the Executive Board and Trustees updated with strategy and implementation
- Support of funding applications for various biodiversity, nature conservation and environmental projects
Experience and Skills required:
- Substantial experience of biodiversity, nature conservation and environmental matters
- A good communicator with good presentation and organisational skills
- Good interpersonal skills which will result in creating consensus and in team building
- Good at understanding issues and have the ability to think out of the box to solve problems
- Have the confidence and ability to liaise and interface with the relevant statutory bodies: local authorities, Natural England; to work with various environmental organisations such as Wiltshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife. Woodland Trust, Swindon Community Forest; and set up studies using organisations and people such as Stantec and Peter Brett Associates and Stewart at Ellendale
- Aware of the biodiversity metrics to give the necessary biodiversity “score”, before, during and after restoration
- Live within easy driving distance of the canal (broadly Wiltshire - Swindon - Oxfordshire).
