As a result of the imminent retirement of the current jobholder, the Hope Debt Advice Service is seeking a Chair of their Advisory Board or Management Committee. Based at the community Hub in Bradford-on-Avon, this voluntary role is critical to the effective delivery of the debt advice service.
Key responsibilities include:
➔ Chairing the Advisory Board or Management Committee which meets 4-6 times per year
➔ Liaison between the Debt Service and the 2 governing regulatory bodies of Community Money Advice (CMA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and completion of the necessary periodic reports and returns
➔ Keeping the Debt Advisory team that comprises 10 volunteer advisers, abreast of changes in CMA or FCA regulation and how they should be interpreted
➔ Preparation of the annual budget for the service, arranging the annual insurances and any and maintenance of all necessary policies and procedures
➔ Adjudicating on any complaint that is made
➔ Assisting the debt advisory team as necessary
The successful candidate will need to spend a day a week in the role either at the Community Hub or at their own office. As a volunteer position, there are no holiday entitlement or other benefits. Reasonable out of pocket expenses will however be paid.
Candidates will need to evidence:
❖ some experience of chairing committees or volunteer groups
❖ genuine sympathy with our Christian ethos and what the service is trying to achieve
❖ a fair, patient and diplomatic way of communicating both verbally and in writing
❖ has at least some understanding, of working within a strictly regulated environment such as the FCA
❖ an interest in and support for the voluntary area and particularly, vulnerable adults
❖ a willingness to learn our case management system, - CMA Catalyst, - and to work with the debt advisers to resolve issues and complaints
❖ well developed IT skills
❖ available time to undertake the role
