About Salisbury Transition City

Salisbury Transition City (STC) is an environmentally-focused community interest company that aims to be a catalyst and partner to inspire, encourage and enable those who want to develop a plan for a sustainable Salisbury.  We cannot achieve much alone but when we work together and learn from each other, playing to our individual strengths, we can achieve real change. Salisbury Transition City was set up in 2014 - you can read more about our history here. STC is powered by volunteers and any money we generate goes right back into our community aims.

Join the Salisbury Transition City Team & Boost your communications skills

Would you like to help spread the word about Salisbury Transition City and keep the community up to date on what we’re doing, whilst honing your skills in communications across multiple platforms? If the answer is yes then we’re looking for a new volunteer (or two) to focus on our communications, and we would love your help!

Requirements

  • Skills - able to use social media, WIX and/or MailerLite, (or be willing to learn!). We’d love it if you could write engaging content or have an interest in building that skill.

  • Motivation - a desire to support the mission of Salisbury Transition City.

  • Time - 1-2 hours per week, at times that suit you. This is an unpaid role.

We want a diverse range of voices in STC. We will provide extra support as needed to help those from underrepresented groups join us, including younger people, people with disabilities and people from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

What do you get out of it?

  • Tangible skills that you can put on your CV

  • The satisfaction and mental health benefits of helping to make your city a more sustainable place to live

  • The camaraderie of working with a passionate group of like-minded volunteers

  • The opportunity to build deeper links with your community, attend fun events and be the first to hear about inspirational new projects

Communications tasks - these could be shared between 2 people:

As our communication champion(s), you would create and/or follow a communications strategy (with support from other Steering Group members if needed), including via:

  • Email - sending out regular emails to our mailing list via MailerLite.

  • Website - updating the WIX website regularly.

  • Social media - posting on and replying to comments and messages on Facebook, Instagram and BlueSky.

  • Adding events to online platforms, e.g. Eventbrite

  • Writing Press Releases for traditional media outlets, including Salisbury Journal, New Valley News, and BBC Radio Wiltshire.

Additionally, we ask all steering group members to:

  • Attend at least half of steering group meetings and our AGM - to stay updated and feed into discussions and decisions about the future of STC.

  • Represent STC at external events.

If you like the sound of the role and think you have or are willing to learn the skills needed, please email [email protected] by 14th April 2025 with brief answers to the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in joining the Salisbury Transition City steering group?

  • What communications skills do you have?

  • Are you able to spend 1-2 hours most weeks in this role?

We’ll then arrange an informal chat to tell you more about how STC works and see if you are up for the challenge.
