Our volunteer drivers provide a lifeline for Dorothy House patients and carers. Using their own vehicles, Drivers collect people from their homes and take them to Dorothy House sites for a range of appointments.
We are looking for friendly, physically fit people with a full driving license to volunteer as Drivers in Melksham, Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge, Devizes, Westbury and Warminster areas.
As well as getting people from A to B, Drivers also provide reassurance and companionship, so sensitivity and good communication skills are essential.

What you will be doing
- Call a patient, carer, family member at home the day before you are due to collect them and check the arrangements
- Collect them from their home / a Dorothy House Hospice site and help them into / out of your car if necessary
- Deliver them to their destination
- Help them out of the car and ensure that they safely make it to their appointment / home
- Talk to / listen to your passengers if that’s what they want
- Enjoy the experience of making a difference to the lives of people affected by life-limiting illness

Please note:
This role will require a DBS check, evidence of car tax, MOT and insurance
The minimum age for this role is 25 years. The upper age limit for new driving volunteers is 75. Current drivers may continue to age 80 if they wish to.
