A Well-City Salisbury free creative course for wellbeing from ArtCare
Sketching in the Landscape with ArtCare and artist Nick Andrew.
Join ArtCare and artist Nick Andrew for a series of gentle strolls in the local landscape and each session with the guidance of Nick we will try out different sketching techniques and materials as well as writing in our sketch books things experienced, such as wildlife, sounds, the weather and more.
Nick says about sketching in the landscape: “I use it is a means of getting to know the world around me. A way of working out ideas, of trying things out, of playing. Over the past few years I have started to see drawing as an act which I can enjoy for its own sake.
I’ve worked on a project called SPiRE: a series of plein air drawings, looking back at Salisbury Cathedral spire from as far as possible beyond the city. So, most are about the stunning wider landscape around Salisbury through the seasons. My current project: confluence explores the five rivers which flow into and through Salisbury (Avon, Wylye, Nadder, Bourne and Ebble).”
The project primarily uses a model where participants are referred onto a course by their GP practice, support organisation, community group or school wellbeing team. However, we also welcome self-referrals. Visit our website for further information and referral forms.
Location: ArtCare Culture Club at Salisbury District Hospital, the hospital gardens and grounds and nearby Lime Kiln nature reserve; also outdoor locations around Salisbury City Centre (eg. Elizabeth Gardens, Town Path, Cathedral Close)
Course Access Information: We will be working outdoors in all weathers! There will be some walking but we will be based in areas accessible with wheelchair or mobility scooter. One of our workshop spaces has a ramp across a stepped access and narrow door, so please do get in touch to discuss with us if you want to know more.
