It's spring time and the woods of Bemerton Folly are now green, and birds are singing crazily!
Our plan is to make the entrance to Bemerton Folly at Pinewoods Way a little more inviting. We have acquired some wildflower seeds for both sunshine and shade and will be choosing suitable places to plant them. This will require digging up some of the stinging nettles and brambles that are currently growing there, so it won't be easy! But many hands make light work and Rome wasn't built in a day. Besides, nettles and brambles are great for nature so we don't need to get rid of them all.
What else you like to see at the entrance to the Folly? How can we make that happen?
A tree has fallen over a path further in the woods, so we will try to clear that too. Perhaps we can find a use for that birch wood?
We have just submitted a grant for tools but they won't be available yet. Hopefully we'll have enough tools to do round, but if you have some, please bring them along, and bring gardening gloves too. Label them well in case there is a mix-up, and wear suitable outdoor clothing.
We'll also have a chance to discuss what we would like to see in the woods, whether it's benches, paths, art, events and more. How can we make this happen? It will be exciting to see how local people's ideas can shape the environment.
Our plans and work will have the support, guidance and advice from Salisbury City Council, Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
