Are you a keen gardener with experience you would like to share and have a creative flair for all things horticultural in the garden?

We are currently looking for 3 enthusiastic volunteers to join our friendly team of volunteers on Tuesday mornings from 9.00 am until 2.00 pm (There will be coffee and lunch breaks where you will get an opportunity to socialise with other volunteers).

If you are happy to cut and prune and would love to help us in maintaining and developing our beautiful grounds for the enjoyment of patients, family and visitors, we would like to hear from you!

This role would suit a reasonably fit person with experience of gardening and the willingness to work as part of a team.

Regular supervision and support will be provided.

What you will be doing:

    • Carry out gardening tasks as directed by the Lead Volunteer Gardener. These may include caring for herbaceous beds, perennial displays and shrubs, pruning, weeding and edging
    • Ensure that gardening tools are kept clean and that the storage area is kept clean and tidy
    • Help to maintain the grounds as a safe place and report any hazards or faulty equipment to the Lead Gardener immediately
    • Report any accidents, untoward incidents or complaints immediately
    • Undertake other gardening duties that may from time to time be required
    • Attend Gardening volunteer meetings and discussions as required and share ideas about developing the grounds
    • Please wear suitable weather appropriate clothing

  • The skills you need

    • A reasonably sound knowledge and experience of gardening is desirable but not essential
    • An enthusiastic, reliable and flexible approach
    • A moderate level of fitness, suited to undertaking moderately vigorous physical work, including using a wheelbarrow, bending and lifting moderate weights

What's in it for you:

    • Help a local charity and give something back
    • Learn new skills
    • Gain more confidence
    • Make new friends
    • All training and induction to Dorothy House provided
    • Out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed

We welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Please click on the 'Pledge' button to register your interest and we will contact you.
