Active Mile is a government-backed and promoted concept to help get kids active, and Marathon Kids UK is a programme that enables schools to deliver that initiative through running.
By utilising our five points of difference, Goal Setting, Tracking, Rewarding, Celebrating, and Role-modelling, we believe children can truly develop a passion for running.
An active mile is one way in which schools can increase the amount of regular physical activity undertaken by children during the school day, and Marathon Kids UK is here to support schools to achieve this.
Marathon Kids UK in schools is an active mile programme designed to get more students moving and earning rewards on their way to becoming healthier and happier.
Led by an army of enthusiastic teachers, pupils are encouraged to walk/run/skip and hop their way to four marathons through regular increments in an academic year. Each session, pupils clock up the kilometres by completing laps of the school playground or sports field and record the distances on our Digital Tracking System (DTS). Sessions are flexible and adjustable based on the school and teachers’ schedules. We know that tracking pupils’ progress acts as the perfect motivator and that schools use this data for Ofsted, governing board meetings and highlighting to parents how amazing their children are.
At the end of each academic year, Marathon Kids UK hosts the annual Marathon Kids UK Awards, with teachers nominating children and support staff for one of the five coveted awards.
“Marathon Kids is a fantastic programme, which is so easy to implement yet has such a great impact. The tracking and scanning system makes data collection easy and more importantly provides a real incentive for the children to get to that marathon and beyond. The option for parents to log running outside of school is really useful too and gives a great link with home and also a useful insight to how active children are at home. We couldn’t recommend it more!” Emma Marshall. Colmore Junior School, Birmingham
