About Us
Melksham CC is a friendly cricket club located in the heart of Wiltshire, welcoming to players of all ages and abilities. Based at the heart of Melksham’s new Community Campus. we are a rapidly growing club with huge ambitions going forward.
Currently we field three senior sides who play competitive league cricket in the Wiltshire County Cricket League. We also field a f T20 side who play friendly matches against other local clubs on Wednesday Nights through out the season.
Club History
The Club was established in late 2016 as a successor club to Beanacre and Melksham CC, itself formed as a result of a merger between Beanacre CC and Melksham Town CC in 2011. With the previous club’s fortunes dwindling both on and of the pitch for some years, it was felt that a reboot of the club – including changing our name to establish ourselves as the premier club in Melksham – was a necessary step to ensure the survival of cricket in the town. The club was placed in further jeopardy that year when a devastating fire gutted our pavilion, temporarily rendering us without an indoor facility to call our own for the next couple of seasons.
1st XI History
The fresh start immediately inspired a change of fortunes on the pitch, with our then only senior men’s side gaining 3rd and 2nd place finishes in Division 5 during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The latter campaign earned us promotion to Division 4 for 2019, although life in a higher division proved difficult, with the team only just avoiding relegation that season.
The 2020 season saw the usual league structure postponed due the COVID inflicted shortening of the season. When normal service resumed in 2021 it would prove to be a familiar struggle for the 1st XI, who once again only just managed survival after an indifferent campaign. The 2022 campaign would finally see a long awaited renewal of the team’s on-the-field fortunes. Incoming captain Adam Mitchell led the charge as the side claimed a 2nd place finish, earning the club a place in Division 3 for the 2023 season.
2nd XI History
Off the back off the a couple of successful first campaigns for the 1st XI, the club was, for the first time, able to field a 2nd XI during the 2019 season. This newly formed side went on to be a roaring success during its debut campaign in Division 9, with a raw and inexperienced side going onto claim a commendable 3rd place finish. Unfortunately this good form could not be sustained during the 2021 with the return of League Cricket, with the 2nd XI suffering from rather indifferent form during the campaign which led to a 9th placed finish and relegation from Division 7 West.
An immediate return to that division was almost achieved the following season. With skipper Ian Doyle leading the 2nd XI through out a strong campaign in Division 8 West which included an eight-match winning streak. Sadly this was not enough to seal promotion, which in the end was missed out on by just 4 points.
