TeenTalk / 4Youth (South West) is currently seeking placement young people counsellors in Melksham and some online work. The face to face hours in Melksham will be either Tuesday or Thursday between 2pm and 6.30pm.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

  • To deliver a professional and accessible face to face counselling service to young people between 10 to 25 years old. 
  • To commit to at least a one-year contract. 
  • To always follow and meet the requirements of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection procedures.
  • To ensure the service is delivered in line with BACP guidelines & ethical framework. 
  • To liaise with admin support as appropriate. 
  • To report to and liaise with the Counselling Manager. 
  • To maintain appropriate record keeping systems in line with data protection requirements using the existing database system. 

Person Specification

  • Completed or working towards a diploma in level 4 counselling or psychotherapy, preferably training in children, adolescent and family counselling/psychotherapy 
  • Membership of professional body, preferably BACP or UKCP 
  • At least two years experience in working face to face with children and young people (e.g. counsellors, teaching staff, youth workers, etc.)
  • Ability to assess client’s needs and risks including those with complex issues 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain clear boundaries 
  • Strong team working ethos. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and management, both verbally and in writing 
  • Case recording and monitoring skills 
  • Experience of working independently and managing own workload 
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
