Can you help out on the Big Help out?? - Food donation sorters and stackers

Join our mery band of volunteers from local food projects and organisations to create a hive of activity on the market square as we sort, and send for storage, what we hope could be the equivalent of one tin or packet of food for every resident in Salisbury.

In just 1 day? We can do it with your help!

Volunteers will be coordinated by Salisbury City Communities Team and supported by ordanisations from the Foodie Forum for Salisbury a network of voluntary organisations working with and providing food, locally.

Who can volunteer? - anyone aged 18 plus (or families with Children ages 15 and over.

What will I do? - taking food donations from members of the public, sorting into food types and best before dates, stacking the donations into creates ready to be collected and ddistributed to Foodie Forum projects across the city. We will need some people able to lift crates and the work will involed standing and working outdoors.

When do you need me? - May 8th ( Bank Holiday Monday) in the following time slots. But you can sign up for more than one, or the whole day.

1) 10.30 - 12.30 - Set up and preparation for the event on the market square

2) 12 - 2            - donation sorting only

3) 2 - 4              - donation sorting and pack down taking down tabkes and disngage and l                                loading food into vans.

If you can give us 2 hours or more to ensure that everyone who needs it has access to free or low cost food in Salisbury for the months ahead email [email protected] with the subject line "Big Help Out"

More About The Event

As part of the Kings Coronation weekend, on the 8th May, from 12 – 4pm, Salisbury City Council is aiming to coordinate an event for the whole city, a festival of giving and volunteering. (see our event on the campaignpage)

At the centre of the event will be a food drive for the network of food organisations that form the ‘Salisbury Foodie Network’. This network includes Bemerton Community Fridge, Your Salisbury Pantry and Salisbury Foodbank, with support from other partners from Wiltshire Council, the Pantry Partnership and others. On this day the network will be out in force to collect as many items of food for these projects as they can.

Our dream is to collect one item of food for every resident and help our local food projects meet the needs of local people for  month following this drive!
