Being a parent can be lonely, frustrating, and overwhelming. Home-Start is there for families when they need it the most.
Home-Start South Wiltshire (HSSW) is part of the wider Home-Start UK (HSUK) network. We are firmly rooted in our community working with other local groups and agencies, supporting families to give children under 5 the very best possible start in life – because childhood can’t wait.
“When my volunteer makes suggestions I think, I can try that, she builds my confidence; I can do this.” (parent)
As a charity, HSSW has a Board of Trustees who are responsible for the governance of the organisation. Trustees work together as a team to ensure HSSW is delivering effective support to local families where it is needed. To do this we support each other to draw on different perspectives, knowledge and experiences, always prioritising the interests of our beneficiaries.
“The team feels like ordinary people doing extraordinary things for families” (volunteer)
Every trustee brings their own skills and experiences to the board, ensuring we have a rich and effective team to enable us to make robust and astute decisions. It is important that our board reflects the different aspects of our community. We need trustees with an understanding of the pressures facing parents and a genuine interest in supporting parents in our community as well as those with expertise in areas such as fundraising and HR.
“I feel honoured to join the team at Home Start, helping the charity to meet its aims and provide a positive and supported experience for young families in Wiltshire" (trustee)
Being a trustee of HSSW is a rewarding way to support a charity that is providing high quality support to families when they need extra help. It is an opportunity for you to bring your expertise and perspective to the decision-making process, enabling us to continue and develop the work of HSSW.
