Would you like to join our happy band of volunteer drivers?
We need more to help with our mission of making prison visiting easier for friends and families of the imprisoned men in order to encourage visits.
The reason we do this is that we know that keeping in close contact with your loved ones whilst serving a sentence helps with rehabilitation and, thereby, reduces the risk of reoffending on release from prison.
Our wonderfully friendly and helpful band of drivers collect families and friends of the prisoners from Westbury Station, Devizes Market Place and, occasionally, Pewsey station and drive them to the prison and back for their visits. These lifts make the journey for visitors easier, cheaper, more friendly and less stressful and, therefore, encourage them. The visitors are extremely appreciative.
The Scheme is run by our most efficient and empathetic Transport Scheme Co-ordinator and supported by a named trustees of the charity. The drivers are very well supported in their roles and to this end we also hold an annual gathering for the drivers when all of us can can share thoughts, ideas and any concerns as well as updates on the Scheme. The picture attached is from one of these gatherings and demonstrates the happiness of some of our drivers in extending their volunteering role to include washing up!
The lifts rota is arranged weekly so never needs to clash with your diary. Even helping on an occasional basis is helpful.
If you are interested in this valuable and rewarding role please contact our Transport Scheme Co-ordinator, Les Drage by email: [email protected] or phone 07504 987190
