Company description
The aim of Sea Cadets is to give young people the best head start in life through nautical adventure and fun, based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. Whether at sea or on land, Sea Cadets offers an environment where young people can find new confidence and inspiration and gain nationally recognised qualifications. Across the UK 15,000 cadets from 402 units, supported by 9,000 adult volunteers, are challenging themselves and developing new skills and experiences.
Trowbridge Sea Cadets has undergone a transformation over the last few years and we have been busy recruiting several new adult volunteers, but we're missing the final and important parts of our team.
Sea Cadet units are managed and run by committed adult volunteers. The Unit Management Team (UMT) are volunteers and act as the unit’s Trustees, The UMT is responsible for the running of the unit at a strategic and management level.
We are actively looking for a new adult volunteers to join our dedicated Unit Management Team. Members of the Unit Management Team (UMT) are expected to commit a few hours per week, to attend monthly meetings, currently being held virtually.
All adult volunteers will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and 3 e-learning courses: Health & Safety, Data Protection and Safeguarding. This is followed by an Induction programme of 7 further online modules and a final virtual face to face Safeguarding module before full membership is confirmed.
Becoming a Charity Trustee is a serious undertaking, we are looking for individuals with a genuine interest in furthering the aims of the organisation not just an interest in a role. Sea Cadets are vested within their local communities and our trustees are expected to support this so your location is key.
Each Sea Cadet unit is an independent charity which must fundraise for its running costs, all trustees are responsible for supporting this aim while the parent charity of MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets) funds the charitable infrastructure and provides national facilities. Our biggest supporter is the Royal Navy whose customs and traditions are at the heart of what we do.
Each Sea Cadet unit must comply with all policies and procedures issued for the governance of Sea Cadets by, or on behalf of, the MSSC Council and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The MOD underwrites the Sea Cadet training liability.
