La Traviata (meaning "The Fallen Woman") is a tragic opera
in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi.
It tells the story of Violetta, a Parisian courtesan who falls
in love with a nobleman named Alfredo.
However, Violetta sacrifices their idyllic life together after
being pressured by Alfredo's father to leave for the sake of
his family's reputation, she reluctantly writes Alfredo a
farewell letter and sets off for Paris.
Amid all the tension and heartbreak there are some
rousing party scenes but ultimately Violetta, having finally
been reunited with Alfredo, tragically dies in his arms of
tuberculosis.
