Chippenham Museum, a free entry Chippenham Town Council facility, reveals the history of this historic market town from its prehistoric origins to the present day.

Learn about the town’s development, through its connections to river, road and rail and explore its surprising links to Alfred the Great and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Enjoy regularly changing temporary exhibitions and a varied programme of walks, talks, family activities and special events. Find something special in the museum shop, which supports a variety of local makers.

The museum has a team of over 50 volunteers that support the museum's work in a variety of roles welcoming visitors, supporting education activities and behind the scenes with the collections. Specific volunteer opportunites are promoted when available and the museum welcomes expressions of interest to volunteer throughout the year.
