Support children and young people

In Youth and Early Intervention we provide a central support hub for Wiltshire Police, to guide, coordinate and collaborate on approaches and work that the Police can deliver directly, or in partnership, to support children and young people (CHYP) and their families.
 
We want to develop and build on what’s strong, not what’s wrong, utilising contextual safeguarding.

We identify opportunities to intervene early to prevent CHYP becoming involved in crime or exploitation as victims or harmers.

This includes a ‘universal’ offer for all CHYP for example through our Junior Good Citizen and Year 10 work experience programmes and creating lesson plans for delivery in schools, through to targeted activity with CHYP including the SWIFT programme: CHYP referred for trusted adult support, delivered one to one from PCSO’s, LCIs or PCs.
 
Aims and Objectives:
  • We will develop, deliver and support multi agency contextual support based interventions.
  • We will increase pro-active prevention linked to the crime calendar and trend/intel – horizon scanning to identify opportunities for early intervention and prevention
  • We will apply and develop what works through local evidence based research and effect problem solving
