We are seeking a new Chairperson of the Board and other trustees to help shape the future of our work with families

Home-Start North Wiltshire is a voluntary organisation, working in the county of Wiltshire, committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under the age of five.

We provide emotional and practical support to families through our trained home-visiting volunteers, family groups, and professional Family Support Organisers, helping families through their most challenging times. We are funded through grants and our service is free at the point of use.

Our Trustees provide essential leadership, guidance and governance from their own professional or lived experiences. They also play an important role as ambassadors for our work and can offer particular skills to the organisation (for example, HR, accounting or finance). We welcome interest from those who can be passionate about our work with parents, children, families, and the community.

Importantly, the Board of Trustees should reflect the communities in which we work. We already benefit from a variety of skills, experiences and backgrounds but are always looking to broaden this further. We’d love to hear from anyone interested in joining us.

We are particularly seeking someone who can Chair our Board of Trustees and other trustees willing to contribute.  Our trustees generally take an active role in the organisation by supporting our promotional events or by sitting on one of our two sub-committees. We are seeking:

  • Skills and experience in the areas of leadership and management, accounting/finance, evaluation and IT.
  • Life experience of parenting or childcare is desirable. We particularly encourage applications from people from black, minority ethnic, and LGBTQIA+ communities, as we want our board to be representative of the families we support.
  • Local knowledge of Wiltshire and Swindon.

The minimum commitment as a Trustee is for 8 – 10 hours each month, to attend meetings or to engage in Board discussions in person or via email and online forums.  The Board meets 6-7 times a year usually in the morning on a Wednesday. Further opportunities to get involved are possible too, so we can be flexible to suit individual motivations to volunteer.

For more information or to arrange a visit please get in touch.  Alternatively call 01672 569457 or email Dawn Wilson at [email protected] This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and references. You will need to complete and submit an application form.
