Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Are you seeking a voluntary position for a few hours a week? If you have experience in the application and interview process, or experience in setting up a business, this Employability Volunteer position could be for you!
The Platform Project is an innovative social enterprise dedicated to empowering disadvantaged and vulnerable young people with the skills, confidence, and experience they need to build a sustainable future. Working closely with local authorities, education institutes and local employers, our unique concept of a ‘training workplace’ bridges the gap between education and employment.
We’re seeking an Employability Volunteer to join our team on Tuesday’s between 15:30-19:00. Based in Swindon, you’ll be supporting our Youth Development Team with a 12-week Employability programme, called BOOST, working closely with 16-24 year olds to provide experiential development opportunities with no more than 12 young people attending at a time.
Our BOOST programme is split into 3 modules, with each lasting 4 weeks. We’re seeking volunteers who are able to commit to a single module (4 weeks), or the full programme (12 weeks), allowing the young people to build trust and have consistency.
In the role of Employability Volunteer, you’ll be responsible for:
- Working with the Programme Lead to support the engaging sessions, from CV writing, job searching, interview techniques and more.
- Support students to set up their own enterprise business utilising any skills you have developed.
- Support young people to complete and work towards personal development plans so they can track goals, progress and challenges.
- Ensuring all training sessions are inclusive, accessible, and meet the diverse needs of participants.
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Experience of job searches, the application process and interview or experience of setting up a business.
- Ability to build rapport and relate to young people from a range of different backgrounds.
- Confidence in communicating concepts clearly and providing constructive feedback, adapting your style as needed.
- Previous experience in supporting young people with their development is desirable.
The Role:
As an Employability Volunteer, you’ll provide practical support and development for our students, many of whom struggle with confidence, structure and direction, preventing them from finding their feet in their early career choices.
Using a range of approaches, you’ll support during experiential development sessions alongside the Programme Lead helping our young people turn their passions into professions and break down any barriers preventing them from succeeding.
