Barnardo’s Participation Volunteers support our children and young people to feedback on their experiences of the services that they have access and shape future delivery of those services.
The opportunity to help children and young people with additional needs to get their voices heard and to express their opinions. You would be supporting children and young people to influence the services we deliver in Wiltshire and to share their views with key decision makers. For children and young people with Special Educational Needs, communication can be a struggle in daily life, so giving feedback can be daunting and challenging.
We are looking for someone who is creative, a critical thinker and flexible to take up this role. Ideally, the applicant would have a basic to intermediate level of awareness and understanding of children and young people with additional needs and their communication styles. There is a lot of scope for this role to grow and adapt and we would be open to ideas from the applicant on how they believe we can enable the children and young people we work with to have more of a voice.
The volunteering hours are flexible and a lot of the planning stages of the role can be done during normal working hours (9am-5pm). In terms of gathering views and feedback from children and young people, this will most likely be done during our youth club hours which operate on weekday evenings and on Saturdays. The role can be based from Chippenham, Trowbridge or from home. There will be a requirement for occasional travel throughout Wiltshire to meet with the children and young people who attend our youth clubs.
We are looking for people who really believe in Barnardo’s work and would like to use their passion for good quality service delivery to support children, young people and families in the development of future service provision. You will be highly motivated, have great organisational skills, be able to communicate with people from a range of backgrounds.
