We are based on the first floor of Westbury Library at the end of the High Street.
Our volunteers often work alone so must be able to work independently. An interest in the history of the town is necessary but not an in-depth knowledge.
Our displays are based in one room with public access and the volunteers are based in that room to point out to visitors our displays and photo books to browse through and to sell items from our sales table. Our sessions run from 3-4 hours over several days from Monday-Saturday. We have a panic button and good liaison with the library staff.
We have occasional visits from local primary schools (see photo) and also run walks/tours of the town's heritage trail at weekends.
You will be able to pick up history tips and knowledge from your induction session and who to contact for further, more specific information if you are not able to answer a question.
We also have an 2nd floor room for our stock and archives. Some of our volunteers prefer to work here and it is not open to the public. We currently have a keen archivist, but there would be a wide range of work you could undertake if interested.
