You will use and develop leadership skills to help the other volunteers maintain high standards, keep busy and productive, and deliver great service to our customers and supporters.

This role could include assisting with the day-to-day running of the shop such as:

  • Supervising and supporting other volunteers as required.
  • Building an inclusive and empowering environment by supporting and encouraging volunteers to learn new skills.
  • Opening and/or closing the shop including unlocking/locking and cashing up.
  • Following procedures to give refunds, void sales, and correct any errors on the till.
  • Taking till readings and completing checks as required.
  • Daily banking tasks including depositing takings and getting change where required.
  • Sorting donations including steaming and pricing as well as training and supervising other volunteers to do this.
  • Serving customers at the till.
  • Creating stylish window displays.
  • Occasionally, this role may require some lone working e.g. due to staff or volunteer holiday or absence.

Your Skills and Attributes

Everyone has something to offer and we offer ongoing training and support. For this role, it would help if you already have some of these skills and attributes or are keen to learn:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Willingness to share your skills and experience with fellow volunteers as required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • A professional manner and the confidence to carry out tasks independently.
  • Keen to learn new skills and engage with the public.
  • Responsible & trustworthy.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm when the shop gets busy.
  • The ability to use your initiative and to find things that need done.
  • Adaptable to support a range of people & their needs.
  • Basic numeracy skills.
  • Have basic IT skills and confidence.
