If you have some spare time and access to a sewing machine and want to support women and girls out of period poverty, please join us!
The Pachamama Project was set up by student Ella Lambert during lockdown in 2020.
We now have thousands of volunteers in the UK and around the world - volunteers with access to a sewing machine and some spare time. Some form groups to sew, others sew in their own time at home.
180,000 reusable pads have already been sent to refugees and vulnerable people in Lebanon, Greece, Pakistan, Syria, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, the US and here in the UK, taking more than 22,000 women and girls out of period poverty - keeping girls in school, women in works and providing dignity.
We have volunteers of all ages - school children sewing for their Duke of Edinburgh awards, sewers, crafters...all working to end period poverty for the most vulnerable in society. We provide the instructions and templates and, where necessary, the fabric too to make the Pacha Pads that will last at least five years. Volunteers send their pads to us and we ship them to the people who need them - pads that are distributed by on-the-ground partners along with menstrual health education.
We fundraise to pay for shipping and fabrics and are always looking for new volunteers to make the pads, for fabric donations and for financial donations.
