We seek individuals, clubs, community groups, businesses, schools etc. to support Wiltshire’s unpaid by fundraising for this years’ Time for Carers Appeal.
Carars who hadn’t taken a break from caring within the last year were more likely to report that their mental and physical health had suffered as a result - 8 out of 10 people caring for loved ones described themselves as “lonely or socially isolated” due to their caring responsibilities.
Regular breaks have been proven to make the biggest impact when it comes to combatting loneliness (Carers UK, State of Caring Survey, 2017).
It’s estimated that 70% of carers are providing more care than before in the Covid-19 crisis and over half (55%) are feeling overwhelmed and worried they were going to burn out in the next few weeks (Caring behind Closed Doors; Carers UK; 2020).
Now more than ever it is vital that we help carers improve their physical and mental health, so they can keep well and carry on caring.
Carers need regular breaks to reconnect with friends and family; pursue their hobbies and interests; grow in confidence; develop skills; keep themselves well and able to carry on caring.
Financial strain is one of the key reasons why carers can’t take a break. The Time for Carers Appeal removes this barrier and provides carers from all economic backgrounds the same chances as their peers to get the breaks they need; whether that’s going swimming, taking the kids to a football match or going to an art class with friends.
Claire, who looks after her seriously ill brother and elderly mum, was given the opportunity to take a short trip to the coast: “It wasn’t even just about being given the money to go away – it was about being seen and valued as a carer and given the recognition and support that enabled me to carry on.”
Please help us to continue supporting carers in Wiltshire like Claire to get the breaks they need and the recognition and support they deserve.
