We're looking for people to join our team of trustees.

Wiltshire Citizens Advice is an independent charity that is part of the national Citizens Advice network which has been in existence since 1939.

We have around sixty employees, along with over fifty talented volunteers who give advice to people across Wiltshire, helping with a wide range of issues including welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment. We help around 15,000 families every year which makes us one of the biggest Local Citizens Advice services nationally.

Currently we have a team of seven trustees, including the Chair, and we are looking to increase this to ten within the near future.

The role of trustee exists to support the organisation and to assist and offer guidance to the CEO and their team, along with setting the organisation’s strategic direction, and monitoring expenditure and performance.

Our trustees have a range of skills that we can call on, but we would ideally like to attract new trustees who as well as general business, health or charitable sector knowledge also some experience of the fields of law, ICT, or human resources. However, whilst experience within these areas is preferred, we are keen to invite applications from people who genuinely wish to assist the team, and who have good communication and numeracy skills, along with a level of empathy and willingness to contribute.

We are also keen that our trustees reflect Wiltshire’s wide client group and would welcome applications from adults of all ages, irrespective of background, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

What’s in it for you?

  • You can meet people and build relationships with trustees, staff and volunteers.
  • You could make a positive impact and assist people within Wiltshire by ensuring that our operations are sustainable and that they meet the needs of our community.
  • You can build on your leadership, governance and strategy skills.
  • You can become part of a good team!

The role of trustee is ‘pro bono’ but we do pay expenses for travel and some other agreed activities. Our trustee team usually meets every six weeks or so on Thursday evenings and you’ll likely need to give around two hours each meeting, and you may need to attend other meetings if you’re involved in specific projects, or meet with volunteers and staff occasionally within Wiltshire Citizens Advice. We can be flexible about the time spent and how often you volunteer.
