This is a follow-on activity from our Volunteer Fair held in June. At the Volunteer Fair we celebrated volunteering - and showcased a few of the organisations that depend very much on volunteers. Worryingly, aross the country, volunteer numbers are declining and levels of satisfaction for those who are still volunteering are reducing. Vision for Volunteering (VFV) is a nationwide initiative to address both these issues – and more.

The workshop uses a framework, designed by VVF, to encourage communities to start
conversations about the future of volunteering in their locale. It provides:

  • A springboard to explore what the future of volunteering looks like for our community, and
  • A space to share and develop ideas for future positive actions to improve local
    volunteering.
The session will be around three hours (max) with a break for lunch – once again generously supplied by Lisa at Warminster School.

What will come out of it? Well, hopefully some positive actions that we can take forward as a Forum. As examples, here are some of ideas seen in other communities:
  • One single advertising point for all local volunteer vacancies. No more trawling around charity shops or scouring the net. This also provides a brilliant opportunity to celebrate some of the lesser known volunteer roles.
  • Shared training – where there are common themes such as safeguarding, health and safety etc… charities have combined resources to hold one training session with volunteers from different organisations. It’s less expensive for the charities, volunteers expand their network and there is a much broader spread of diverse ideas.
We of course need to focus on what is most important and achievable for us and our community; so, it will be interesting to see what ideas come out! If you are interested in finding out more about VVF, please click here…
