Soundabout Choirs are for Learning Disabled people of all ages and their families and carers, including people with complex support needs.
The choir welcomes all voices and actively tries to remove barriers to participation. Making each session unique and person led. Choir members contribute to the sessions in a variety of ways, including:
- Singing or vocalisations
- Making sounds with an instrument or sound maker
- Using technology e.g. an iPad or EyeGaze
- Movement and dance
- Signing
The choir leaders are trained to engage with everyone in meaningful and respectful ways.
The sessions are a joy to be part of and we are looking for volunteers to help facilitate them.
Volunteers help the two music practitioners running the session with:
- Room set-up
- Welcoming and registering choir members
- Supporting choir members to make their own sound contributions
- Capturing photos and videos (on Soundabout devices only)
- Helping with refreshments
- Capturing and sharing feedback on the session
- Packing away equipment and re-setting to the room.
We have a YouTube channel, with choir music videos, which you can watch to get a feel for what we do!
