What you will be doing:
- Provide complementary therapy to patients, carers and bereaved people
- Prepare the treatment room, ensuring the temperature of the room is comfortable and the environment is suitable for treatment
- Carry out an initial assessment with the patient/client explaining the specific therapy that will be used, how it may benefit them and ensure all the relevant after care information is provided
- Review patient’s notes for which training and support will be given
- Communicate throughout the treatment session in a manner, level and pace appropriate to the person’s needs
- Follow the Dorothy House policies and procedures prior to and after treatment and as directed recording treatments on the relevant database (training provided)
- Where relevant to be responsible for the control and safe storage of essential oils
- Attend clinical supervision sessions and team meetings as appropriate
We ask that you are able to give 2 – 3 hours either weekly or fortnightly and will be able to volunteer for at least a year. You’ll receive full training, induction and ongoing support from our therapies team.
The skills you need:
- To be competent and confident in delivering relevant complementary therapies
- To be able to modify and adapt therapies to meet the needs of people with life limiting illness, carers and people who have been bereaved
- To have good communication skills with a friendly and approachable manner
- To have empathy and understanding, but also an awareness of your own needs for support
- To keep up to date with current developments in complementary therapy practice
- To be a member of a complementary therapy professional body
