Invitation to Participate in Consultation for Learning Disability Strategy
Dear Community Member,
We are excited to invite you to participate in a consultation process to shape Wiltshire Councils new Learning Disability Strategy. Your insights and experiences are invaluable to them as they strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals with learning disabilities.
Strategic Aims and Areas of Focus:
- Ensuring Choice, Control, and Independence
- Increasing options around self-directed support.
- Promoting greater uptake of universal and mainstream services.
- Supporting transition plans and emerging needs of young people to inform adult service planning.
- Increasing Housing Options to Enable People to Live Locally
- Ensuring people with learning disabilities (LD) live in quality accommodation that promotes independence.
- Reducing out-of-county placements by collaborating with local providers to maintain a robust care framework.
- Providing Opportunities for Skills and Development
- Increasing engagement in meaningful employment (e.g., work experience, voluntary work, paid employment).
- Enhancing access to local opportunities, resources, and information.
- Improving online awareness and digital safety.
- Being Happy, Safe, and Healthy
- Encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.
- Reducing oral health and dental problems and promoting regular health check-ups.
- Collaborating with health providers to ensure equal access to quality healthcare.
- Encouraging the Use of TEC to Promote Independence
- Using technology-enabled care (TEC) to empower individuals with learning disabilities to participate fully in their communities and achieve personal goals.
