Founded in 2008, the WPCC is an independent organisation which is managed and run by parent carers, for parent carers.
We strongly believe that our children and young people should have: -
- The same opportunities as their brothers, sisters and peers
- Fair access to the support they need to live their lives
- Families who feel supported in their caring roles
We have a membership in excess of 4,000 parent carers across Wiltshire whose children range in age (0-25yrs) and in the type of special educational needs and/or disabilities they have. These include mental health, physical, sensory, learning, communication, challenging behaviour, autistic spectrum disorders and health conditions that require complex care.
The WPCC provides a consultation and participation service for parent carers that works alongside Wiltshire Council, the ICB, and other services, to help shape better services for young people, aged 0-25 years with special education needs (SEN) and/or disabilities.
The WPCC offers services including: -
- Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Service (SENDIS). This is a ‘one-stop’ shop which offers a wealth of information as well as signposting families to specialist services which support families raising a child with SEN and/or disabilities.
- SENDIS Outreach Service which works 1-2-1 with parent carers who would normally find it difficult to access WPCC support by telephone or the internet.
- A Weekly Newsletter which is full of information to suuport parent carers, including: opportunities to have your say, things that are going on, activities and opportunities for children, young people and parent carers, important updates and and much more.
- Free Parenting Courses for parent carers of children aged 3 to 11 with SEND. A medical or formal diagnosis is not required for a parent or carer to attend.
- Free Information Events: opportunities to speak directly with people who deliver SEND services in Wiltshire, meet other parent carers, attend free workshops.
- Regular opportunities to have your say on the services your child or young person accesses and positively influence decsions made about these services.
- And so much more: please visit our website to find out more or call us on 01225 764647 from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
