This short course is designed to provide a brief introduction to how we may support individuals with autism in the workplace with a view of promoting inclusion and neurodiversity in work and work-related settings.
Individuals with autism are still under-represented in employment, yet there are many ways through which we can promote practice that is more inclusive. This session look at some of the potential barriers individuals with autism may experience from recruitment through to positive experience at work, and examine the reasonable adjustments that can be made to overcome or reduce these barriers. There will be an unapologetic focus on the positive aspects of promoting neurodiversity in the workforce.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Understand what is meant by autism and neurodiversity.
- Identify several potential barriers that individuals with autism may experience with respect to obtaining and/or retaining employment.
- Identify several organisations that may provide advice and support advice about promoting neurodiversity.
- Understand how colleagues and employers can support an neurodiverse and inclusive workplace.
- Understand the benefits of having a neurodiverse workforce.
