For over 35 years we have worked passionately to support and develop the voluntary and charitable sector in Wiltshire
We aspire to create a culture of collaboration, support and connection with those that can transform the quality of lives and communities in Wiltshire.
We are recruiting for a number of voluntary positions to join our Board of Trustees, including a new Chairperson to help shape our work now and in the future.
So if you are a creative leader, thinker and doer, networker, connector and collaborator, if you believe in equality, inclusion and diversity and want to help make a difference those living and working in Wiltshire, then we’d like to hear from you.
Could you support us to drive a strength-based approach in all that we do (focusing on what’s strong not what’s wrong)?.
At Wessex Community Action (WCA) we are on a mission to create connections, solutions and opportunities that build inclusive, equitable and strong communities.
We want to ensure that our Board better reflects the diversity of those with a range of lived experiences from the communities that we support, and so we particularly welcome interest and applications from Black, Asian and ethnic minorities, people under 40 years of age, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ people.
This could be your first Trustee role, or you could already have some experience as a Trustee. We have a trustee induction process and ongoing training, to support you through your first years. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge of the charity sector through participating in the work of our Board committees.
Our Board meets four to six times a year, and participation can be in person or virtually. Trustee positions are unpaid, but we don’t expect trustees to be out of pocket for carrying out their role, so expenses are paid.
We are looking for a Chair of Trustees, who has the appetite, energy and commitment to help us deliver our vision. Someone who believes in a people centred approach and can give the time to support our team and lead the Board of Trustees. A Chair who is caring, passionate, motivated, with excellent leadership skills, who can commit the time to be an ambassador for the organisation.
As a Local infrastructure organisation (LIOs) we are here to enable communities to meet their needs and achieve their aspirations, making places anyone would want to live, work and visit.
Our vision is to improve local lives by promoting positive social change. Our work includes organisational development, support, driving quality across the sector and influencing local and regional development, creating opportunities for the Voluntary Community Sector (VCS) to grow and thrive.
WCA have identified four broad areas of local infrastructure work. These are the functions we feel are needed in each place, enabling and supporting a thriving voluntary and community sector.
- Leadership and advocacy – across diverse communities.
Bringing people together to have a stronger voice and influence, mobilising and encouraging community ambition and aspiration as a connector and door opener.
- Community Development - Practical support
Strengthening spaces and opportunities for people to come together to develop their own goals and drive aspirations for their communities.
- Volunteering - encouraging and nurturing opportunities
Leading and generating expectations and cultures in which volunteers can thrive.
- Partnerships and collaborations – bringing together networks
Connecting local voluntary and community organsations with strategic and systems partners, to create, pursue and implement opportunities for joint working.
As a Chair for WCA you will be working as part of a team. You will have the opportunity to apply your unique skills and knowledge while learning from others. You must enjoy working closely with a team of passionate people who have differing strengths and perspectives. It is not necessary to have previous board or committee experience as training will be provided. This position would therefore suit an individual wishing to take their previous experience to the next steps and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds.
