Our volunteer befrienders offer 1:1 support to people who have experienced domestic abuse/sexual harm. The support is part of our recovery programmes and is offered to people who are now considered low risk, but who are still struggling with the trauma of their experiences and the impact these continue to have on their lives.
Main responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 listening and emotional support
• Support and promote empowerment and recovery
• Promote independence
• Adhere to best practice and policies – safeguarding and raising concerns regarding risk
• Commit to offering weekly support for 6-9 months (time off for holidays/personal commitments is ok!)
• Support can be provided face to face, by phone or by video call
The role can be delivered remotely, or in person. The role requires some time flexibility, but on average 2 hours a week for each person you support.
Training and support
FearFree will provide induction training and appropriate training to the role. You may be asked to attend training events and meetings, which may be in the evening or at weekends. Volunteers will also be asked to commit to supervision sessions on a regular basis
