Beyond Dementia are seeking friendly men and women to support people with dementia and their carers to take part in group activities – singing, movement and memory cafes. An uplifting and rewarding way to spend an afternoon!
The Amesbury Movement for the Mind group meets on Mondays from 2pm to 3.30pm, rotating with Music for the Mind and the Memory Cafe. As well as gentle exercise to music, there is a varied programme which includes singing, talks, activities and a chance to catch up with friends. Dementia professionals are always on hand for an informal chat too.
Please note the group start time is 2pm, however, volunteers arrive earlier - 1.30pm - 4pm to set up the room, prepare refreshments etc.
As a group volunteer your role can include but is not limited to: -
- Greeting and welcoming members, their carers and any visitors to the group
- Supporting members (if necessary) with activities and engaging in conversations
- Assisting with preparation and serving refreshments
- Assisting with tidying up and clearing away at the end of session
We offer you training in dementia awareness and provide on-going support to our volunteer team
initially, you will meet with our Volunteer Manager and complete volunteering forms. We do ask that you provide contact information for two referees, who are not family members and have known you for at least 2 years.
