The Mental Health at Work training course gives you the knowledge to spot the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, the tools to start a conversation about mental health and the information to be able to signpost to professional help.
The course is useful for everyone – employers, employees, front-line staff, business owners, professionals working with parents (including teachers, childcare professionals and volunteers), those with mental health conditions themselves and those supporting relatives or friends.
The course is aimed at providing delegates with the skills and knowledge to start a supportive conversation and will cover the following:
- Raise awareness of mental health conditions
- Highlight stigma and the issues caused by it
- Identify factors that can affect a person’s mental health
- Outline advice that can be given to someone suffering from a suspected mental health condition
- Identifying the potential effects of alcohol and drug abuse on mental health, and the negative consequences on a person’s employment and lifestyle
- Demonstrating the creation and application of a first aid action plan for mental health for an individual
- Look at ways of creating a positive mental health culture in the workplace and key factors in implementing these ideas
The course covers the signs and symptoms of:
- depression
- anxiety
- OCD
- eating disorders
- suicide
- self-harm
There is a particular focus on the signs of stress, and course content includes guidance on how to manage stress on a personal level as well as helping to support others.
These courses do not teach you to become a therapist, but they do develop the skills and knowledge to deal with everyday mental health situations and enable effective non-judgmental listening, reassurance, support and guidance in a crisis situation.
NB: This course can be undertaken as CPD, however there is the option of formal accreditation which requires passing an exam and demonstrating understanding. To undertake the accreditation for a QNUK Level 2 award, an additional £25 payment is required to cover the cost of assessment.
This training is being delivered by Winterbury Training on behalf of Wessex Community Action for volunteers and staff from Voluntary and Community Sector organisations based in Wiltshire.
