A supportive, helpful and enjoyable workshop to help the experience of hosting refugees even richer
You are making a generous and compassionate offer to people who have been forced out of their own homes and displaced to another country. However, we all know that there will be times when sharing your home will be difficult and there are bound to be challenges along the way.
Three workshops (plus a follow-up session) are offered to those who are hosting refugees or are planning to do so. Please sign up for all 3 workshops that are taking place online on;
- 7th November, 1 - 2.15 pm
- 21st November, 1 - 2.15pm, and
- 5th December, 1 -2.15 pm
22 hosts signed up to attend our previous sessions and reported to find the sessions, “excellent”, “ a fantastic basis for us” with “lots of detail to be absorbed”
These sessions are being offered by Judith Lask and Anne Greaves who are therapists and members of the Association for Family Therapy who have developed these workshops. Anne and Judith have long experience in helping families navigate new challenges in their lives and will offer some ideas for avoiding problems and strategies for managing them if they arise.
Each session is an hour and a quarter long and we will include the following topics.
- The challenges for hosts and guests
- Creating helpful boundaries and house rules
- Understanding and working with cultural and family differences
- Communication and resolving differences
- Accommodating different parenting styles
- Thinking about the needs of children in the joint household
- Understanding and responding to distress and trauma
- Looking after yourself
- When and how to seek help.
We know that you will bring your own skill and experience to the groups and there will be an opportunity to learn from the experiences of others. The aim is for the groups to be helpful and enjoyable and to make the experience of hosting even richer. It will also provide another opportunity to network with others who are in a similar position. We want to support you in the amazing offer you have made.
