Alzheimers Support are looking for volunteer walk marshals to provide practical support to walkers on our annual Walk to Remember held at Wilton House Estate.
Sunday 21st September from 8am - 3pm
The role requires enthusiasm, good communication skills and be physically fit enough to stand for up to 6 hours. An interest in walking is useful but not essential. The friendly volunteer marshal walkers along our 5-mile route through the Wilton estate.
The role might include the following:
- Helping to set up and taking down the event site
- Offering a friendly welcome to and answering walkers’ questions
- Sell merchandise and / or refreshments
- Marshal (guide) walkers along pre-determined walking route
- Provide support and encouragement to walkers taking part in the event
- Act as a sweeper to ensure all walkers are accounted for and finish the walk safely
- Ensure people stay on track and do not get lost
- Maintain contact (by agreed means) with walk leaders to advise of any issues
Expectations include:
- A full briefing about the event and your volunteer role
- Dress code - long trousers, sturdy footwear (walking boots or trainers) is recommended plus appropriate weather proof clothing. You will be provided with high-visibility jacket
- Reliable and able to commit to the whole event
- Snacks and water will be provided while you are volunteering
- To inform the group Organiser well in advance if you cannot attend as agreed
- To be treated as a valued member of the team
