Skills you'll need
- Confident in Safeguarding young people and / or willing to undertake relevant training
- Sensitivity and understanding working with SEN
- Good communication skills – able to engage positively with young people, their parents / carers, team members and volunteers
- Active listening and non-judgmental approach
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in an environment that can sometimes be fast paced
- Reliability and commitment – consistent presence helps build trust
- Proactive team member who can take directions
- Strong team player with resilience and a sense of humour
- Ability to carry out basic IT tasks
- Ability to help with session setup and lead activities when required
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a programme of imaginative activities, encouraging the active participation of young people in developing their skills and understanding of others and the world around them.
- Involve young people in the decision-making processes whereby individuals and groups take on responsibilities for themselves and others in their project and the wider community.
- Respond to individual and group needs, which include issues affecting young people, promoting self awareness and self-esteem.
- Facilitate young people’s learning and their personal and social development.
- Take part in 4Youth (South West)’s staff performance management to identify priorities and learning needs and to be responsible for the learning and development of self.
- Comply with the provisions of Health & Safety at Work legislation, as detailed in the Health and Safety Policy.
